The Best Things In Life…

It’s amazing how sunshine brings out the best in people. What a week we’ve had here in Largs and, indeed, all over the country. With Andy Murray’s win at Wimbledon putting the whole country into a state of elation it seemed fitting that we should bask in the sunshine for at least another week.

With temperatures soaring and my air-con units working overtime it’s been all hands on deck managing ice cream production and constant queues. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen so many happy faces, not just at the site of my ice cream, but I’ve noticed people just being nicer towards other people. Wouldn’t it be nicer if every day was like that? Still, if we’re going to appreciate the good times I suppose the universal truth of life is that we have to experience some bad times too.

So, before the skies cloud over and the rain starts falling why don’t you start today with an attitude of gratitude and take advantage of your feel-good mood?

Give someone a hug; smile at a stranger; phone a friend; give your Mum and Dad a kiss; go for a walk with your family; have a snooze in the sun; tell your partner you love them; laugh out loud and guess what, you’ll remember this day because…

View the Supermoon tonight

Wow! Did you know that tonight, 23rd of June 2013, the full Moon will be at its closest point to Earth of the entire year? It’s known as a perigee syzygy Moon and will appear about 12% larger in diameter than usual.

It’s happening just two days after the Summer Solstice so it’s also a ‘solstitial Moon’ and visually it’ll make this the lowest-down full Moon of 2013.

Since lower Moons tend to be orangey yellow or amber in colour, this should give us a true ‘honey moon’ all night long.

You can view it anywhere but we’re planning to view it from Largs Bay with a traditional glass of Moniack Mead in hand, otherwise known as: ‘Honeymoon Mead!’

My favourite time of the day

It’s that time in the day when you can literally take a few moments to stop and smell the roses and be thankful for the simple things in life.

For me it’s when I’ve had a really productive day and managed to tick off most of the things on my “to do” list – today was one of those days; I’ve taken the time to prepare a home-cooked meal, sit at my dining table which looks out over Largs Bay and quietly, peacefully watch the sunset.

Largs is blissful on an evening like this. It’s a wonderful place to live and work any time but especially so when the day’s work is done (well, almost) and people have stopped rushing around. There are just a few people out and about heading towards the prom, walking their dogs and not much traffic passing through and the bay looks absolutely serene and calm.

It’s a simple pleasure but oh, how thankful I am right now to be able to enjoy it. 🙂
